Are you looking for a new way to spend a Saturday afternoon? Why not visit the quaint, historical and beautiful Lebanon, OH?
I stopped in Lebanon last week to walk around and talk to some shop owners about Be Ohio Proud and it brought back some fond childhood memories. Growing up my parents would take us to The Golden Lamb for special occasions and we would stop off for a treat at the Golden Turtle Chocolate Shop after our meal. Growing up with experiences like that are what make me so proud of our state.
My top 3 favorite stops along the strip have to be...
The Golden Lamb: This is the OLDEST continuously operating business in the entire state of Ohio. It was started in 1803 by Jonas Seaman who spent only $4 for a license to operate a "house of Public Entertainment." Since that time, several wings and stories have been added. Due to the hotel/restaurant's proximity to Cincinnati and the National Road (U.S. 40), The Golden Lamb has had storied visits from the likes of John Quincy Adams, Ulysses S. Grant, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain and many, many more.
Golden Turtle Chocolate Shop: I chatted with the owner and can't remember exactly when he started the shop but I believe it was some time in the 1970's. Super friendly staff, delicious chocolate made on site! I recommend the milk chocolate turtles.
Green Country Market: Snacks, gifts, fudge, dips, candles, art and jewelry all represented with incredible "country-chic" style. I don't even know if country-chic is a thing but that's the vibe I got in the store. It's a shop that my sister, who loves and appreciates good style, would really enjoy. The owner is super friendly too so be sure to stop by and say hello!
