Like art? Ohio has a lot of great artwork done by some very talented artists. This post focuses on local, Ohio proud, artist Nate Burns of Groveport, Ohio. Nate has been drawing since the young age of 5 and still loves it. He graduated from Columbus College of Art and Design and currently (primarily) does freelance work. While Nate is open to experimenting with all types of mediums, his favorite is old school pen and ink. Nate says, “I tend to work primarily in pen and ink. My favorite illustrators/artists/eras of artwork lend themselves to that medium so I guess I was naturally drawn to it (no pun intended).”
Nate says he is vastly influenced by the masters of old school pen and ink illustration, and the engravers and craftsmen before them. He says he’s always trying to do his best to interpret the inspiration he takes from things around him, and work it into something he can be proud of in a finished piece. “Being from Ohio definitely influences my art because I take a lot of inspiration from my favorite plants, trees and animal species native to the state,” says Burns, “I like to show my Ohio pride by enjoying the nature of Ohio. Hiking it, kayaking it and just exploring it. Also like to support local breweries, eateries, etc. when I can.”
Here is one of my personal favorites out of Nate’s collection, a giant squid:
