Chestnut Ridge Metro Park is an awesome place to go to get away to somewhere quiet and grab a quick run on the trails, spend some time bird watching, or even biking the 9 mile mountain bike trail. It's about 19 miles outside of downtown Columbus in Carroll, but you can actually see the skyline from one of the observation decks in the park. The park is mostly wooded, and has a few short trails to run or walk, totaling a distance of 2.5 miles between the three trails. There is also a pretty good size pond where you are able to fish right off the dock.
Chestnut Ridge is considered the first ridge in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, which is pretty neat. And also allows for some pretty nice mountain biking trails. The park has 9 miles of trails, including a 5 mile easier trail with an additional 4 mile loop that is a little more challenging. The park is a 486 acre park, and the biking trails take up a pretty good portion of the park.
My favorite part of going here is stopping in for the sunrise since the park opens at 6:30 am every day. When you get there that early you may only see one or two other people, but the birds are all awakening and it's just a very peaceful place to be! There are plenty of benches or picnic tables to sit at and watch the sunrise, or you can just walk around the park.
Here's a map of the park and all the trails taken from the metro parks website.
