If you're in the mood for some of the best coffee in Columbus, you definitely need to check out Ohio Proud spot Cafe Brioso! They have it all - coffee, food, service, and atmosphere. During the week you'll find this downtown Columbus coffee shop packed during the lunch rush. Brioso's freshly roasted coffee will never disappoint, whether you're a coffee novice or one with a more picky palate. Founded in 2001 by local Jeff Davis, this shop has become an integral part of Columbus.
Located on the intersection of High Street and Gay Street, Brioso has become the best-smelling landmark in downtown Columbus. Since the weather turned almost tolerable, I haven't passed by without seeing people sitting on the patio, and I have never passed by Brioso and not seen bikes parked out front. They have a reputation for being bike friendly - I actually heard of this place through a local cycling advocacy group. In the fall, Brioso will be in the middle of Columbus' Independents' Day Festival.

The coffee. Oh man, the coffee. When I have time to go a bit out of my way between classes and work I make it a point to stop by Brioso. Their coffee is roasted in the shop and it is all tasted by the baristas to make sure it lives up to their standards. They use beans that are environmentally sustainable and ethically grown, always a plus. Drinks are sweetened with Ohio maple and honey, another reason to Be Ohio Proud. If you're not a coffee drinker, stick around for tea, soup, salad, or sandwiches. If you're there for the baked goods, get there early - they're made fresh in the morning! Brioso uses as many local ingredients as possible, including local produce when it's in season. I recommend the veggie sandwich, but I've never been disappointed by any of the food there.
