If you live in Cincinnati, or even close to it, visiting Ault Park is pretty much a necessity. It is my favorite park in Cincinnati by far, and I could literally spend hours here! It is around 224 acres, and has the most beautiful pavilion, great overlooks, awesome trails, lovely gardens and both picnic and play areas. I consider this park a retreat, because no matter what time of day I end up there, it always feels like I am outside the city and surrounding neighborhoods. It is quiet, especially on the trails, and yet still so full of life everywhere!
The pavilion is really popular for weddings and other events, but usually during the week you can access it just for a great view of the park. I absolutely love the view from up top. It also has the gorgeous fountain in front of it that will be flowing for all the warm summer months:
The gardens here are incredible too! I missed getting some photos of the magnolias blooming this spring-which is truly disappointing because there are so many throughout the park and they look stunning during the springtime. However, during the summer months, there are lovely flowers throughout the gardens as well! I love walking around the gardens and seeing them all on display! There are great trellises at the end of both the garden beds with benches underneath.
Today I also explored the trails at Ault Park for the first time! I don't know why I haven't before, especially with great trails so close to my house! I was pleasantly surprised by the them-I didn't feel like I was in the park at all. They are dirt trails, which are my favorite, and they wind through the woods all around the park. I just walked along the Ridge Trail for most of my time in the woods, but I think I also was on a few other trails and just wasn't paying close attention. Anyway, I started near the entrance to the park and came out behind the pavilion. It was a great escape and so quiet back there. I really felt like I was miles and miles outside of the city instead of nestled between Hyde Park and Mt. Lookout.
Ault Park also offers a great overlook! You can look out across lots of green space and it is a awesome spot to take in some of the surrounding area!
This place truly embodies home for me since living in Cincinnati. I have had so many great memories in this park! I'm sure many others have as well. Every time I go to Ault Park (which is at least once a week these days) it is so full of life. There are families flying kites, people having picnics, friends playing soccer, runners everywhere, cyclists passing through and people having good conversations with those they care about. When I'm in this park, I feel like I can see the character of Ohioans best displayed. It brings out a great sense of pride to be from the state and city that I am blessed to call home.
