Two huge events in Ohio are coming up, and I wanted to make sure you all knew about them: Community festival and the Stonewall Columbus Pride festival!
Community festival, or ComFest, has been around since 1972. It is a 3 day long event that is full of music, art, dancing, “alternative politics,” yummy food and beer, live performances, and a whole lot of fun. Cultural, political, and social change are the themes of this festival. ComFest is held outside in Goodale Park, rain or shine. ComFest also has a TON of street vendors. ComFest first started as a street party, and now there are thousands of people who attend the festival each year!
The festival is free to attend, and will be going on this year June 28th, 29th, and the 30th. If you like sitting on the grass, listening to music, and drinking beer, then this festival is for you! Yes, you will see some hippies. BUT, you will also see all types of people. It IS Community festival, and it is a lot of fun.
The Stonewall Columbus Pride festival is also held in Goodale Park annually. Dedicated to the LGBT community, as well as any supporters, this festival is full of love and support. This festival includes a pride brunch, a pride parade (fully equipped with drag queens and floats!), street vendors and food, and other activities at local bars and businesses near Goodale Park.
The Columbus Pride festival is one of the most well respected of its kind, and is definitely worth going to, to show your support! This year the festival will be held on June 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. Donations can be made for this event too, online.
I will be at both events and will be posting pictures from both festivals as well. So make plans to come see me! At ComFest, you’ll find me with a turkey leg in one hand and some tasty local beer in the other, hanging out with good people. At Pride, I’ll be walking around eating some Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and volunteering. Both events would love to have extra help and support, so check out both pages to see volunteer information!
