I ventured up to the Oxford area a couple weeks ago, and had to check out Hueston Woods State Park for the afternoon. It was when we had our first taste of fall weather, and it was the perfect day to just chill lakeside and enjoy the beautiful day! Now that fall weather is pretty much in full swing, I'm looking forward to getting back there to hike and enjoy some of the other activities they have to offer.
It's an absolutely beautiful park-3,000 acres of woods surround Acton Lake. There are almost 17 miles of hiking trails, and another 12 mile trail for horseback riding! It's bound to be absolutely stunning hiking this fall as all the leaves change and cover the ground!
They also have a ton of other activities there to take advantage of including canoeing, fossil hunting, fishing, archery, and a ton of other stuff too. They even allow deer hunting during the season, as long as you are using a bow or muzzleloader. Also, they have a fantastic lodge that is open to the public. It has a beautiful view of the lake and is nice and warm for chilly mornings to come.
I went on a Monday afternoon, and there were hardly any other people around the park. It was such a nice retreat to get out and enjoy this beautiful park for a day! They offer camping, so if you're looking for somewhere to go for a weekend trip, this park has a lot to offer. It's getting a little cold now for the beach, but they have a nice beach there as well. And if you're fortunate enough to have a boat, they allow boating out on the lake!
I'm really looking forward to getting back there soon, and when I do, I will be sure to share some more pictures of the trails and other activities the park has to offer.
Oh, and the dog park looked nice too, so if you have a pup, you can bring them along!
